ARCHIVE CLOWNS AND UNICORNS. A/W, S/S 2007. Fashion-costume collection, inspired by circus mimes and magic, 1920s, 1930s, Japanese costume, in black, white and red. Made in the Devon studio with other local tailors as well as local natural fibres where possible. THE CRINOLINE AND THE ROSE. 2006, 2007. CIRCUS MAGICIAN. Giffords Circus 2004. Throughout circus show, appear and disappear in and out of ring mysteriously playing tricks on the other characters, including fire exploding from a book, white eggs from mouth, transforming a pearl to a snowstorm of white confetti, mouthcoils, and white streamer productions. In a white costume sometimes as a swan with a huge white bustle with trinkets dangling off and white painted veil, or in vintage white circus costume. STAGE MAGICIAN. Stage magic routine performed in the ring at the start of every show, sometimes played as a fool, and others as a "wise woman" presenting magic, set to gipsy music, in red costumes covered in gold jewelry and 20s circus feathers, or all in white as a swan with white painted veil and vintage jewelry. A lot of white tricks: fake white bird, bird cage, white eggs and silks, white ribbon parasol. IRONING LADY. Giffords Circus 2003. Skirt full of cotton reels, knitting in hair, and a half finished jacket with the pattern still on, trying to iron costumes, organize the set but constantly distracted by an audience who are messy and need an iron / sewing up etc. Clowning improvisation at start of every circus show with the use of magic tricks and a simple narrative to work around involving losing a toy horse. Improvised movement inside wooden frame box with white muslin cloth exterior ripped and sewn up by dancer inside box, whilst I am in a huge wooden skirt built onto a platform on wheels trying to move around the box.
