CLOWNS AND UNICORNS. A/W, S/S 2007. Fashion-costume collection, inspired by circus mimes and magic, 1920s, 1930s, Japanese costume, in black, white and red. Made in the Devon studio with other local tailors as well as local natural fibres where possible.

THE CRINOLINE AND THE ROSE. 2006, 2007. Award winning film of the Clowns and Unicorns Collection by Emma Kempton with Anson Hartford and Banyak Films, supported by Phoenix Media. A silent short film depicting a magician's search for magic.

CIRCUS MAGICIAN. Giffords Circus 2004. Throughout circus show, appear and disappear in and out of ring mysteriously playing tricks on the other characters, including fire exploding from a book, white eggs from mouth, transforming a pearl to a snowstorm of white confetti, mouthcoils, and white streamer productions. In a white costume sometimes as a swan with a huge white bustle with trinkets dangling off and white painted veil, or in vintage white circus costume.

STAGE MAGICIAN. Giffords Circus and Bloomsbury Press 2004. Stage magic routine performed in the ring at the start of every show, sometimes played as a fool, and others as a "wise woman" presenting magic, set to gipsy music, in red costumes covered in gold jewelry and 20s circus feathers, or all in white as a swan with white painted veil and vintage jewelry. A lot of white tricks: fake white bird, bird cage, white eggs and silks, white ribbon parasol.

IRONING LADY. Giffords Circus 2003. Skirt full of cotton reels, knitting in hair, and a half finished jacket with the pattern still on, trying to iron costumes, organize the set but constantly distracted by an audience who are messy and need an iron / sewing up etc. Clowning improvisation at start of every circus show with the use of magic tricks and a simple narrative to work around involving losing a toy horse. Popular with children.

CIRCUS MAGIC MIME. Giffords Circus 2003. Walkabout in intervals every circus show. Monotone, mime 1930s in vintage circus costume designs with old babycham box of magical effects.

UNICORN, ON STAGE. New Venture Theatre and Festival Tour 2002. Devised, directed, performed and toured show of 6 people with a narrative about the last ever unicorn. Mix of drama, Japanese butoh, mime, circus, with dream like feel and big white costumes / effects.

UNICORN, ON STREET. 2000-2001, Europe Street Theatre. Huge woven wicker unicorn's head with ivory alicorn, worn over my head with an enormous tiered hoped skirt from collar bone out, which rocks in a horse like manner. Layered white fabrics and paint.
Butoh-esque style unicorn very slowly and silently glides down cobbled alley ways and plazas led by a white faced Spanish flamenco fool, who moved in sharp but slow ways, fairly comic, holding a wishing well. Surrounded by white faced mimes each with props of bubbles, sprinkling glitter effects, balloon walking and singing bowl respectively. Beautiful, sad, mournful, funny, ridiculous, unusual, extremely striking. Devised around the streets of Tarragona, Barcelona.

FLYING CARPET. Northbrook Theatre 2001. Japanese Butoh performance in white cloth using fabric in front of video projection of me on flying carpet.

DOLLS HOUSE. Komedia Theatre, Northbrook Theatre, Brighton Festival, 2001, 2002. Inside and outside of one woman's world represented by 2 female performers. Improvised movement inside wooden frame box with white muslin cloth exterior ripped and sewn up by dancer inside box, whilst I am in a huge wooden skirt built onto a platform on wheels trying to move around the box. Drawing on Japanese butoh techniques and performed to industrial ambient music and similar movements at Komedia theatre bar Brighton.
Also performed as dolls on streets: one rag doll and one china doll giving out sweets. Filmed.

NEVERTHELESS. Brighton Festival 2001. Short Film. Crinoline skirt, short performance in front of roundabout with a big white bird cage.

WISHING WELL. Europe 2001. Solo and with group variations of 2 - 6, against a hand painted set and in a decorated grotto of mushrooms and astro turf, with a wishing well. Frozen faeries became alive and granted wishes when money went into wishing well.
This Palm Tree Faeries group covered many events with various other projects from 1998-2001 including art exhibitions (as live art), shopping mall, national trust woodland days, private parties, nightclubs, weddings, may days. Also provided children's entertainment mixing performances with drama and arts / craft workshops.

PALM TREE. 2000. Directed & performed in 5 minute film for Norwich Arts Centre, cast of 6.

DANCING QUEEN. 2000. Europe Street Theatre. Statue on box who dances to tunes when money is put into box, this developed into a group of fools with a choreographed dance.

MIDSUMMER NIGHT DREAM 2000. Costume designer - maker, dresser and set designer for Eye Theatre.

ONE MANS MEAT 2002. Costumier and sets for Turning Point Theatre.

BIG FOOT THEATRE 2002. Teacher of performance, devising, costume, set and prop making to inner city schools.

PROPER JOB 2005. Organiser of devon's first resource fair with circus, antertainment, art exhibition and fashion concerned with the environment.

GAIA COLLECTION 1998. Fashion collection GAIA included deconstructed vintage curtains and potato sacking tailored into coats, alongside recycled Indian fabrics made into summer string dresses. Stockists included Portobello market, Camden market, boutiques in London, Manchester, Dublin, Norwich. Seen at Clothes Show Live, Big Breakfast, Just Seventeen, "Flair that's Fair" show, and Local Glossies (ie. Norfolk magazine)
